Atlantis Lab AT38: the speaker of superlatives

To design the AT38,  Atlantis Lab set itself one motto: no limits on the quality of the components in order to build the ultimate high-end speaker based on a 38 cm woofer. The internal components are the highest quality that can be found for a speaker in this category. It is a three-way speaker that consists of four drivers. The high section is taken by a compression chamber tweeter driven by a powerful neodymium magnet. The membrane has been adapted to maintain the finesse of reproduction with a very high efficiency of 98 dB. The midrange is handled by a horn speaker. Finally, the bass is provided by the impressive 38 cm speaker on the front, coupled with a second speaker on the rear. This assembly, classic at Atlantis Lab, makes it possible to combine the desired qualities of efficiency, compactness and very low frequency response. The 30 Hz or so really roar when the front woofer and its dazzling accelerations (always this efficiency...) enter the scene. The AT38 has a colossal power of 1500 W admissible but it will already express itself very well with a good  amplifier of 2 x 100 W. It can truly be married to any electronics, like any listening room. Indeed, the vent is adjustable. This step, simple but precise, is recommended to get even more from the AT38 beyond the factory presets, in order to best couple it to your listening room.

Atlantis Lab AT38: craftsmanship and passion

Designed and assembled in-house in Puy-de-Dôme, the AT38 is in line with its younger sisters. It is slightly smaller than the AT31 at 107 cm in height and retains its slightly pyramidal shape. It easily fits into the living room thanks to its ultimately reasonable footprint (50 x 35 cm). The imitation leather upholstery is successful: the grain is visible but light, the tension is perfect, and the ash-brown or white colors are particularly timeless and pleasing. The sides are made of oak worked along several bevels and grooves to provide additional rigidity and absorption of standing waves and parasitic resonances. The single terminal block at the rear was made in France to exclusive specifications. It is of very fine craftsmanship, made of a high-conductivity copper alloy. The tightening is firm and easy. Bananas and bare wire are accepted. The front compression offers an oval horn output with a beautiful effect. The whole thing is well executed and a great success, able to blend into a wide variety of studios or living rooms, from contemporary to more rustic.

Listening at the borders of reality

The AT38 seems to have no limits, both in terms of power reserve and dynamics as well as bass depth, not to mention a staggering power of resolution and precision. Everything is orchestrated by exemplary neutrality and a sound image that truly immerses its listeners in a vast, airy and very well-layered musical landscape. But also sensuality and realism, which is not an understatement, because Atlantis Lab offers us a speaker that reproduces timbres with the greatest fidelity. We quickly let ourselves listen to the entire piece, then another... The music fills everything, the entire room, our emotions too... The AT38 is an injunction to the audiophile present. In the end, we forget the speakers, to let ourselves be carried away by the finesse of restitution, the openness, the tension of the bass... It's all there. In comparison, many other listening experiences seem almost inert, bland and undefined. Atlantis Lab presents its worthy flagship, which will leave a lasting impression on all music lovers who are lucky enough to acquire it or pass by it.
