A promise at first sight

The AT31 speaker is an imposing floorstanding speaker with commensurate features. A three-way speaker, it nevertheless has four drivers. The high section is handled by a compression chamber tweeter driven by a super-powerful neodium magnet. The membrane has been adapted compared to other models to maintain the finesse of reproduction with demonic efficiency... More than 100 dB for the AT31! The midrange, located above, is handled for the first time in the range by a dedicated 16cm driver. Finally, the bass is provided by the impressive 31cm driver on the front, coupled with its smaller 26cm driver at the rear. This assembly, classic at Atlantis Lab, allows to combine the desired qualities of efficiency, compactness and very low frequency response. The 28 Hz or so really roar when the front woofer and its dazzling accelerations (always this efficiency...) enter the scene. The AT31 nominally handles nearly 200 Watts, 400 peak. It can truly be paired with any electronics , just like any listening room. Note, like its little sisters, that the vent is adjustable. This simple but precise step is recommended to get even more from the AT31 beyond the factory presets, depending on your listening room.

Tall, and well proportioned

The aesthetics are neat. Tall, slender, slightly pyramidal... for a more fluid silhouette, it easily fits into the living room thanks to its ultimately reasonable footprint (41 x 41 cm). The imitation leather upholstery is successful: the grain is visible but light, the tension is perfect, and the ash-brown or white colors are particularly timeless and happy. The sides are in oak worked with several bevels and grooves to provide additional rigidity and absorption of standing waves and parasitic resonances. The single terminal block at the rear was made in France to exclusive specifications. It is of very fine craftsmanship, made of a high-conductivity copper alloy. The tightening is firm and easy. Bananas and bare wire are accepted. The front compression offers an oval horn output with a beautiful effect. The whole is well executed and has been a great success, capable of blending into very varied studios or living rooms, ranging from contemporary to the most rustic.

Listening without return

Listening, finally, rewards our impatience on the intensity scale! Magnitude, dynamics, transparency, details, airiness… obviously come to mind. But also sensuality and realism, which is no small thing, while the specifications could have made us fall in love with the sound system. We quickly let ourselves listen to the entire track, then another… The music fills everything, the entire room, our emotions too… The AT31 is an injunction to the audiophile present. In the end, we forget the size and the imposing characteristics, to let ourselves be carried away by the finesse of the restitution, the openness, the tension of the bass… It’s all there. In relation, many other listening experiences seem almost inert, distant, and undefined. It’s a harsh observation, which underlines the sincere merit of these AT31s, and of Atlantis Lab which presents us with a speaker that allows us to reach peaks of pure musical happiness.
